1. Mask Off – Future
-I felt like this song illustrated the mentality that so many people are sick of the COVID pandemic. The line “mask off” displays how we wish we could take off our masks and the virus would go away, although this is not reality.
2. Stuck With U – Ariana Grande & Justin Bieber
-This song is specifically about quarantine, as can be seen by the music video. I can relate to this personally because many of us are not used to being stuck at home with our families and each other for this long. Although it is much harder to concentrate and get things done, it is something that we have to accept and be grateful for, since we are staying safe.
3. If The World Was Ending – Julia Michaels & JP Saxe
-Clearly, 2020 might feel like the world is ending. This song describes the relation between two people and how they would be there for each other if the “world was ending.”
4. Home – Machine Gun Kelly
-This song is a favorite of mine and truly conveys how home can be a safe place and haven away from the dangers of the world. The people that we love are there, and during 2020, the support from these people at home is what everyone needs.
5. Low – Jon Bellion
-I personally thought this song fit my theme because it describes an “all time low” that I believe me and everyone else has felt at some point during the year.
6. Hundred – Khalid
-When Khalid says “hundred things I gotta do today” it shows how me and many other students have to deal with adjusting to online school. It can sometimes be overwhelming, and takes up a lot of planning to get through.
7. Run This Town – Jay-Z & Rihanna
-I felt like this piece related to the political and social upheaval taking place around cities in the world. So many people with opposing viewpoints want someone different to run their town, which could lead to violence.
8. Pompeii – Bastille

-The line “how am I gonna be an optimist about this” from “Pompeii”, shows how it’s hard to see the good in this year. It really takes a strong mindset and viewpoint to get through what is happening with a positive attitude.
9. The Lazy Song – Bruno Mars
-This is more of an upbeat song that perfectly captures the idea that I am much more distracted and lazy now that I am stuck at home more. There are so many more opportunities to just lay in bed and do nothing, which Bruno Mars sings about throughout the song’s duration.
10. Battle Scars – Lupe Fiasco & Guy Sebastian
-The song “Battle Scars” shows how so many of us had to go through tough, disturbing times in 2020 that have changed us forever. Although we will overcome these challenges, the impacts that they have left on us will be forever present, like battle scars.
