I thought that Stephen and Michael were two more great guest speakers. What I especially liked about this discussion were the two aspects of the conversation. First, I really liked the conversation about how business and art can clash. I loved the discussion about how the important aspect of writing a play really is the artistic aspect of it. The passion behind it. The writers, directors, actors, etc. However, there is also something important to consider which is that a stage production can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. I feel like this conversation was the best tie in we had to our original conversations about money and art, and how some believe art and money must be completely separate. At some point, the art and the money really do have to cross over, and there is no way to avoid that. Money really is a big aspect of modern art. Another aspect of the conversation I enjoyed was the discussion about what art really is. We tend to return to that conversation a lot, about when does something really become art, and whilst I don’t always agree with everything that is said, I still feel like these are some super interesting conversations to have, and I think that this discussion could make up the whole class honestly, just talking about art. Overall, I felt like Stephen and Michael were two more great guests we had for seminar.
