Jaedon Alvira is a jazz musician and saxophone player. When visiting he told us about how he came to enter the music scene. He was told that he would be given a saxophone if he was accepted into a good college. His dad supported him and his musical ambitions, but his mom wanted him to be a doctor. I can understand this experience as my parents also had big plans for me that I felt were not meant for me. Jaedon shared his perspective on his how he made his decisions, and said that he believed if something just doesn’t feel right for you, the best thing you can do is follow your dreams. He also writes his own parts for Poetic Thrust, the group he plays with. Each member does this as well, and then they combine their parts and show it to the rappers they invite to sing. He mentioned he likes to play large crowds, but he really loves when crowds are with you the best: when their energy matches yours is when you feel the most accepted and in the right place.
