Vietnam Protest Art

Simple, yet powerful.

I found this piece while looking for artwork that protested the Vietnam war. I was drawn by its simple color scheme and bold contrast. This piece was one of many from the University of California’s  Berkeley Political Poster Workshop. At this workshop, students created art protesting America’s rampant violence such as the Kent State shootings, Martin Luther King Jr.’s assassination, and of course, the Vietnam War.  Many of the pieces were made on recycled computer paper or even silkscreen, giving the pieces the bold visuals they needed to catch attention and provoke thought.  I like how the piece I chose offers a perspective on service many may not think about. Anybody who enters war risks death, but the piece subtly suggests that the deaths of those who are drafted would not be noble.
