This poster is from the Vietnam War era. Specifically from the time of U.S. air raids in North Vietnam in an effort to force the government to surrender. Vietnam is one of the most controversial wars in American history, giving rise to nationwide protests and calls for peace. Americans argued that the war was causing the deaths of innocent Vietnamese as well as American soldiers for no reason. Young men were drafted and forced into service. Those who contested the draft were imprisoned, causing many to flee the country. As opposed to the American government who saw Communism in Vietnam as the enemy, protesters saw America as the true enemy in this war. America was considered the “monster” by many citizens.
Interesting how current it feels.
