Jaedon is probably one of the most personally relatable guest speakers we’ve had on so far, partly because I also played the saxophone throughout middle school and high school. I ended up plateauing when I reached high school, because I was relegated to one of the lower band classes, and didn’t have any motivation or purpose to practice. However, I give serious props to Jaedon for being so much more committed and passionate about his goals. I found it very amusing when he talked about his experience in a Jazz conservatory, since he compared it to Whiplash, one of my favorite films. One of the more interesting aspects about his work is his inclination to experiment with mixing old and new sounds together, like motifs from big band jazz and electronic/trap beats. Jaedon’s passion and excitement for jazz reminds me a little bit of Adam Neely, a fairly well known youtube jazz musician who creates educational videos about music theory and its history.
