We had the pleasure of being visited by Gina Simone on our second to final official class of this seminar. Gina portrayed the beautiful Lady Day in her past projects before Covid-19 entered the stage, but seems to have kept a positive attitude among the uncertainty. Like many of the other artists to visit this class, it seems that having unforeseen circumstances change all your plans in an instant is just part of the job. But Gina has the same passion for her work regardless. She loves what she does, and does not do it solely for the money, but for the sake of doing. She is so happy that she can be paid for doing what she wants to do. There is a saying, “if you’re good at something, never do it for free.” This saying rings true (in a less selfish sounding way) for many of the artists we’ve met this semester. Overall I have really enjoyed this class and connected to many of the lessons. I really enjoyed the visits and the class games, and it has given me hope for great future seminars.
