After watching Rent, a musical/romance film that was released in 2005, I can say that I have a new outlook on artists. The movie overall was not as bad as many of the reviews that I read made it seem and quite enjoyable. The movie was well produced, and I saw numerous relations between guest speakers and the characters in the movie. The storyline was a unique one and addressed some very important issues during that time period such as the AIDS disease. It also revealed to me the numerous problems that artists face. The relationships established between the characters was very touching and understandable which gave the movie a more realistic feel. There were times where the movie was difficult to watch, in particular when Maureen was giving her performance at her protest. The music and singing were done very well and was enjoyable. I must add that the movie did feel a little dragged out and at times I forgot or could not understand how certain scenes related to the overall concept of the movie. I also did not enjoy how the movie ended with the dramatic scene with Mimi. Although there are aspects of the movie that could be improved upon, I did enjoy how the movie concluded with the group being together and reuniting again despite their previous issues. The music and set production was amazing, as was the acting, but the storyline could be improved upon.
