I decided to tour one of my favorite museums, The Metropolitan Museum of Art. Because I am not a big fan of the 360º tour, I decided to browse the museum without it. Even though I could see the art more clearly virtually than in person due to the lack of other people, I miss having that magical in person experience. I felt like I couldn’t connect to the art as much because I wasn’t there in the flesh. However, another good thing about being virtual is that I was able to see more art exhibits. When I visited the museum in person, I toured the Egyptian, Greek, and Islamic art exhibits, and I never made it to any others. However, I made a promise that if I were to ever go back, I would tour the costume exhibit. During the virtual tour, I did just that. I also toured the African, European, and Asian art exhibits. Like mentioned earlier, I disliked the fact there was a disconnect in how I felt about the art because I didn’t tour the museum. When I tour a museum in person, there’s a certain energy I feel. Maybe it’s the people around me or just the fact I’m excited to be in a museum, but that feeling of “Wow, I’m looking at something that was created years ago and now I can enjoy its beauty!” is lost when I toured virtually. Honestly, I would rate the Met non-360º tour a 4.5/10 because it wasn’t as enjoyable as an in person tour. To me, I would rather not go to a museum at all than tour it virtually.
