Sara’s 2020 Playlist

1. Supalonely by BENEE : https://youtu.be/SFySVeyv4I0

In all honesty, I’ve never heard the full version of this song but I can’t think about quarantine without this song. When quarantine was just starting this song went viral on tiktok and for two months I’d always see someone on tiktok dancing to the chorus of this song. Now that I look back at it I think it not only went viral because the chorus is catchy but because of what the song is about: loneliness. When quarantine first started people were learning to adjust to being alone and I think that’s part of the reason the song became viral so quickly.

2. Imagine by John Lennon: https://youtu.be/omEDLKS5pbY

When I think about the beginning of quarantine I think of all those celebrities coming together to sing this song, and how much everyone hated it, which still makes me laugh.

3. Nonstop from Hamilton: https://youtu.be/DPgE7PNzXag

When they announced Hamilton getting released on Disney plus I was shocked but also very excited because I had been a fan for a long time and was now finally getting the chance to see my show. Watching it on Disney plus reignited my interest in the show and this is was one of my favorite songs from the show.

4. Feel Like Myself by Jonny West: https://youtu.be/jChePlp-QCA

In quarantine I spent a lot more time watching tv shows and one of them was American Idol (which I hadn’t watched in years). Through watching that show I got introduced to the artist Jonny West and discovered his song Feel Like Myself. I really liked the song and his style of music overall so this song was on repeat for a while.

5. This is America by Childish Gambino: https://youtu.be/VYOjWnS4cMY

During quarantine America as a whole became focused on the social injustice going on in this country and I chose this song because it is a commentary on that injustice. This song was released two years ago but its message about race in America, specifically the experience of Black Americans has remained very important throughout the years, especially now when many began to reexamine the roles race plays in society.

6. Ready or Not by Bridgit Mendler: https://youtu.be/kuIhxMrsPAY

This is a very old song from my childhood but during quarantine I found myself listening to a lot of old songs. I guess with all the confusion going on in the world I wanted some familiarity, which included listening to songs from almost a decade ago. The song brightens my mood when I listen to it because it is very catchy and upbeat.

7. Almost (Sweet Music) by Hozier: https://youtu.be/JJ9IX4zgyLs

There isn’t really a reason behind this song I just listened to it a lot during 2020. The lyrics are bittersweet but the music is upbeat and it got stuck in my head. It gave me very calming vibes and was honestly just a nice song to listen to, and Hozier’s voice is always amazing.

8. Watermelon Sugar by Harry Styles: https://youtu.be/7-x3uD5z1bQ

I listened to this song a lot during 2020 because I think it is very catchy. The song is very upbeat and puts me in a good mood whenever I listen to it. So much is going on in the world so it’s nice to find songs that make you happy and stop worrying for a few minutes.

9. Golden by Harry Styles: https://youtu.be/P3cffdsEXXw

Yes, another Harry Styles song. The music video for this song was released recently so I thought of it when first hearing about this assignment. It is another song with a very happy mood and reminds me of the feeling of being outside in the summertime which I didn’t really get to experience with the Pandemic.

10. POV by Ariana Grande: https://youtu.be/nQJEp-k-ogs

This song just came out but I really like the story behind the song. Ariana talks about being in love with someone who accepts her and loves her through the good and bad, Being with this person has taught Ariana how to love herself and grow as a person which I think all relationships should do.
