Jacob A. Riis Neighborhood Settlement House
- Jacob Riis was a Danish writer, and was author of the book How the Other Half Lives which was famous for exposing, through photojournalism, how dreadful living conditions were in New York City
- He was very inspired by and involved in social issues impacting the city
- The King’s Daughters Settlement House was founded in 1888, when Riis collaborated with Episcopalian women, but the organization was renamed in 1901 and given its current name
- Originally the Settlement House catered more towards women, sewing classes and mothers clubs, but it later incorporated athletics, citizenship classes, and drama
