Cynthia Poon

Hi, my name is Cynthia Poon and I am currently a Macaulay Honors student at the City College of New York. I am majoring in Biomedical Engineering and may go on the Pre-Med track. I actually was more interested in Biology when I was in high school. I loved the way my teacher taught and the fact that we performed a lot of dissections was a plus! I’ve always been interested in cellular processes and how relevant it is to the natural world. As an Engineering major now, I hope to learn from this new field of study while also incorporating something I am truly interested in. In my free time, I’m a homebody, as in, I love to stay at home and relax in the comforts of a familiar environment. I love to hang out with my family and read in the warmth of my room. I like to read a variety of genres, but I especially love to read sci-fi and fantasy. It’s almost as if I’m diving into a completely new reality, a world where I can express myself just by turning the pages of a good, old book. The Leviathan series is my all time favorite and the Witch and Wizard series by James Patterson. Recently, my family took in a Shih-Tzu puppy. I never really thought of myself as being one of those crazy pet people, but he has now become my child and the light of my life. Mushroom (yes, we named him after fungus) clears away all my stress and actually forces me to go out once in a while. He’s like a cute, toddling little brother who has mild separation issues, but I love him all the same. He’s always creeping up on my thoughts and if you see me zoning out, I’m probably thinking about him.

I’m always down for a chat, or if you want to see my collection of about 500 pictures of my dog, it’s always a pleasure!

We recently shaved Mushroom, so he kind of looks like a rat in this photo.
