Jyotsna Kokkottu Joy

My name is Jyotsna Kokkottu Joy and everyone calls me Joy. I am a Macaulay Honors student at City College. I am a Biology major on a Pre- Med track. I am a first generation immigrant from India. I moved to America four years ago with my family. I grew up in a small village in Kerala, India. My mother tongue is malayalam. I enjoy visiting India because most of my family members are there and I get to enjoy traditional foods that I can’t get in America.

My hobbies are reading, cooking, and drawing. I enjoy making indian food and I try to cook for my family at least twice every week. I love spicy and sour food but I dislike sweet foods. My favorite food is biryani. I like to read autobiographies, nonfiction, and fiction. My favorite book is “My Sister’s Keeper” by Jodi Picoult. I like listening to music and I mainly listen to Indian music and BTS. I am an introvert so I like to spend time alone or with a small group of friends. Since I am shy and it is difficult for me to make friends in new environments. But I always try to meet new people and make new friends. I highly value friendships and family. I enjoy being in nature so I like walking in parks, listening to birds, etc.

It is such a pleasure to work with an amazing group of people and I hope to have an awesome 4 years with all of you!!!
