The High Line is a preserved piece of history that serves not only as an functional pathway, but also as an outdoor aesthetic experience. This picture captures the unique aesthetic experience of the High Line as an aesthetic landscape through the surrounding  artwork and architecture. Throughout the walk on the High Line, there are various artistic works that range from sculptures to signs to murals, all of which hold different purposes. Some art is purely to make the space beautiful while some have other functions such as sending a political message. In this particular image, there is a large, bright, colorful mural featuring three large paintings of Lady Liberty accompanied by the words “I Lift My Lamp Beside the Golden Door.” The mural is meant to decorate the High Line and also communicate to all the visitors that New York City is a welcoming and accepting place for all immigrants to exercise freedom. Aside from the obvious artwork, this image depicts the incredible architecture that is prominent in the High Line itself and surrounding structures. The High Line highlights various new buildings such as the one in the image that are neutral in color and feature clean, sharp lines. Many buildings even have a futuristic vibe because of the metallic materials and innovative architectural designs. There are also few, older brick structures that mesh together the past and the future. Another display of the old and the new combination  is the seamless incorporation of the dated railroad tracks within the recent High Line design. This image defines the High Line because it portrays it as the open and peaceful space that it is. The High Line allows natives and tourists to enjoy the cityscapes from a new perspective, people watch, and be in solitude if desired. It’s a space that everyone can find their place in: artists can take pictures, students can study, and business people can relax. The High Line is filled with lush greenery as shown in the image which makes people feel as if they’re able to escape the chaos of the city. The High Line is an inviting space that has added to the appeal of New York City and provided people with a space that is rich in history and art.
