Creating your site for the Curatorial Assignment

To create your Curatorial Project website, you will all be using the Hoffman theme. If you’ve never created a website using WordPress, you will first need to log on to your E-portfolio account. On the left-hand side column, you will see “Dashboard” and under that “My Sites”, by clicking on this last option, you will see a button on the top of the page named “Add new”. Once you are here, you are on your way to creating your own website!

Next you’ll need a name for your site. Keep both Site Name and Site Title the same. For the purpose of the course, I would suggest, last name initial. Ex: dandrade.  Whatever title you choose, make sure it is  short, simple and easy to remember.  Avoid titles that are almost full sentences.

If you are prompted to decide what kind of website you would like to create, select “All Purpose E-portfolio”. Next, you will need to select the theme, located by entering “Hoffman” in the search bubble, and then create!

Hoffman is a very visually rich theme and it should be easy to get acquainted with its functions.  There are simple elements to add, and the most appealing one is its large-size images that head each entry.  First, you will need to create a number of pages, which you can do by following these instructions:

Once you’ve created the page, simply upload the media of your choice (see here for a one minute explanation on how to add media if you haven’t already done so in your other posts).  To make the image take center stage, look on the right-hand side column for “Featured Image” and select “Set featured  image” to find the image you would like to feature prominently.

Organizing Your Site

My suggestion would be to follow Prof. Heath’s guidelines and create your pages based on those. They are:

-About or Exhibition Description (pick one of these titles, not both)

-Exhibition material: This is where you will hyperlink your Arstor image group and other elements. You can also create a subpage where you will have the additional elements.(See below for how to organize your menus).

-Self Analysis, which would include the questions Prof. Heath is asking you to answer in point #5 of the assignment description.

To organize your menu – which you will need to do whether you follow or not this architecture – see below:

If you missed it at the very beginning of this tutorial, see here for what Hoffman looks like once you have all your elements in place.
