To create your Photo Portfolio Project website, you will all be using the Autofocus theme. Make sure to refer to the resources section to get started.
If you are prompted to decide what kind of website you would like to create, select “All Purpose Eportfolio”. Next, you will need to select the theme, located by entering “Autofocus” in the search bubble, and then create!
Autofocus is a straightforward, easy-to-use and more importantly, designed for photography enthusiasts. By using this theme, you will be able to place your photographs (following the assignment guidelines) front and center, while at the same time learning to “curate”, and the ins-and-outs of building a website with WordPress.
With the assignment in mind, here are a few instructions and tips to get started.
*Your page editor is located on the left hand side
*Make sure you organize your pictures according to your vision.
Since there is a default order to your pictures (chronologically with the most recent picture at the top), make sure you upload them in the order you have in mind. It might be helpful to first plan on paper what you want them to look like. For this assignment, you could upload all the images at the same time if order is not a priority for how you conceive of this project.
Use one page only for the description of your project and title it “About”, this is the section where you will also include the 750-1000 critical essay. When you are done, your menu (on the upper right hand corner), will have three options: “Home” (default page), “About” (which you will create), “RSS” (also a default page).
For your images to show, create a new post and title it. Insert one picture per post (or “Add Media“). Add a short description for each image; the text on the page will appear as you hover over the picture, so it’s best to be succinct.
In order to have a tagline to your project (in this section you can get as creative as you’d like), go to “Appearance”, then click on “Customize”, then by clicking on “Site Identity” you will be directed to a page like the one below.
Once you have these pieces in order, you are almost done with your website. Allow yourself plenty of time to work on setting up your page. If you run into any problems at any point in this process, write me an email and I’d be happy to help troubleshoot.
You can also find many resources and easy tutorials on YouTube and Google in general.
**Very important: As soon as you are done with your website, send me the url to the email address listed on our homepage, and I will post all the sites to our course site.
Looking forward to seeing your projects!
