comment on Janet’s position paper

Janet, I still can’t place my comment on your site, so I am posting it this way. Please adjust it so that I can comment beneath your post.

Your discussion of your sources contains several features that provide a model for annotation.  Each one clearly states the main objective or focus of the study, indicates the scope and main finding, provides a succinct discussion of the key issues, and effectively indicates how you might use the article in your own work, including how the article might serve as a model for your own argument and writing.  This is well done.

One thing to note–your citations show that your sources are articles, but in your annotation, you cite them as the journal, so be sure to make that distinction correctly.

The opening of your position can be used for your proposal (next assignment) but will need some clarifications.  At this point, it slips too readily into the assumption that South Korean students in the US have all had bad experiences. While this may indeed be the case, it has not yet been established by your research.  You will need to indicate in your proposal how you will go about establishing that. And if you interview international students, you will need IRB approval—so also include that in your proposal.

You may want to think about how you would divide this argument between the study of conditions in South Korean and those in the US.  In other words, your Thesis may have 2 main chapters for these 2 parts of the study.
