Overview

The Italian immigrants had strong ties to Italy because they maintained customs and traditions, as well as continued speaking Italian, which led to the development of ethnic communities. They continued eating Italian foods, practicing Catholicism, and honoring saints, especially through feasts. Some of the customs and values they brought over to the new world included high marriage rates, traditional family roles of a stay at home mother and working father, and an overall sense of family loyalty.1
