“No Sleep ‘till Brooklyn,” The Beastie Boys:

Describing scenes of their excessive partying, three boys highlight their fun adventures. “No Sleep ‘till Brooklyn” by The Beastie Boys as part of its debut album Licensed to Ill was released in 1987. Starting out as a punk rock band, The Bestie Boys transitioned into a hip-hop group. The band consisted of three men who loved to party including Micheal Diamond, Adam Yauch, and Adam Horovitz. “No Sleep ‘till Brooklyn” embodies both aspects of a rock and roll beat with rap lyrics. When I hear the song, all I could think about is the ultimate party lifestyle.

The song begins with The Beastie Boys telling the audience about the luxurious job they have. Then, they proceed to speak of the crazy activities that they get involved in as a band including trashing hotel rooms, seducing women, and fighting.

“We’re trashing hotels like it’s going out of style

Getting paid along the way

‘Cause it’s worth your while.

Four on the floor Ad-Rock’s out the door

M.C.A.’s in the back because he’s skeezin’ with a whore.

We got a safe in the trunk with money in a stack

With dice in the front and Brooklyn’s in the back.

No sleep till

No sleep till Brooklyn ! No sleep till Brooklyn!”

The song really embodies the fun and exciting attitude of New York City. Being referred to as “the city that never sleeps”, New York City is truly represented by the Beastie boys who repeatedly claim they won’t sleep until they reach Brooklyn. Referencing women, money, and partying, the song causes people to envy the crazy lifestyle of the band. With its many bars and clubs, New York City has become home to many people who search for these wild times. I like this song, for I imagine myself embracing the life of a rockstar.
