Dance serves as a means of nonverbally expressing ideas, creativity, and pure enjoyment among everyone who takes part in it.  In addition to being performed for entertainment purposes and recreation, dance has served as a powerful uniting force among different peoples, especially individuals from the Caribbean and in the Bronx during the 1970s.  The objective of our research was to explore Caribbean dance and it’s prominence in New York City as well as mainstream media.  From examining scholarly articles, to performing field work at CCNY during Caribbean week, to observing music videos and videos from Caribbean day parades, we were able to conclude that Caribbean dance has spread with the diaspora and globalized across the world.   Our research provides evidence that dance serves as a means of celebrating pride and unity among Caribbean people in New York City, and that it is being incorporated into mainstream culture through music videos and fitness/hip hop fusions.
