Rihanna’s Rude Boy – This earlier music video “Rude Boy” by Rihanna can be seen as an earlier successful attempt of incorporating Caribbean touches in not just her music video, but also her dance as well. One thing to take note of here are the costumes and dance outfits she dawns, as some of the colors are representative of the Caribbean nations and so this relates back to that sentiment of pride in roots, despite being away from home. Another element of the video is the animal(s) seen, where the viewer can clearly see a lion, also hinting towards a representation of Caribbean culture. Lastly, the dance portrayed utilizes the usage of the ‘ass’ which becomes an important part in Rihanna’s videos and her Caribbean dance. She is also seen to be implementing styles of dancehall and corresponding music.

Rihanna’s Man Down – This relatively recent music video by Rihanna portrays a story in which she commits a murder. The story is jazzed up by Reggae music, and contributes some Dancehall music feel as well. While there isn’t as much dance depicted in this video, as there is in the others, there is some dancing that happens that is shown in the club. Once again this dance seems to be sexualized, where it becomes a popular theme in the work of Rihanna. The region this music video takes place seems to be a Caribbean region as well, and so this link forms between the type of dance depicted, the region, and the overall feel of the music, where Rihanna is again dancing to at type of Dancehall music and Reggae mix.

Rihanna’s Work – This most recent video by Rihanna displays a high level of sexual dance. There was a lot of ‘winding’ and ‘twerking’ involved done by Rihanna and some other female figures dancing. This was primarily done onto the male figures involved in the video, and this type of dance wasn’t prominent in Caribbean culture, but rather is the product of the mixing of Caribbean dance in New York, primarily America. As a result, Caribbean dance becomes very sexually emphasized, where the ‘ass’ is a vital component to this version of Caribbean dance that Rihanna displays.
