About Us

Brooklyn College Rainways is one of the three teams working to achieve a greener, more rainwater-friendly Brooklyn College campus in Professor Joshua Cheng’s Macaulay Honors College Seminar Three class. The team is comprised of six students at Macaulay Honors College in New York City:

My name is Michael Akyuz. I was born and raised in Brooklyn and am not looking to leave anytime soon. I love trivia, fast cars, basketball and comedy t.v. I like to travel around New York and its adjacent states, but not a fan of leaving the country. I’m always up to try something new and adventurous. As a former Boy Scout, I find it fulfilling to use all of my available resources to help people who are less fortunate than myself.

My name is Anna Kozlova and I am a premedical student here at Brooklyn college. I plan to major in Biology and minor in Psychology during my time here, and eventually move onto Suny Downstate Medical School. In my free time I enjoy reading science fiction stories by authors such as Ray Bradbury and Isaac Asimov, watching forensic mystery shows, and going to see almost any genre of movies, but particularly horror and comedy. I’ve always enjoyed walking around the city with my friends, and popping into new restaurants and cafes to explore new cuisine. I also volunteer at a soup kitchen by Coney Island Avenue every week. I’ve recently taken up salsa dancing as a hobby, and plan to work on that over the next year to improve my technique.

My name is Trevor Lee and I was born in Queens, but raised in Brooklyn. I’m currently attending Brooklyn College and on the pre-med track. I’m planning on majoring in Biology with the hopes of getting into med school. Traveling is one of my favorite hobbies, and I have gone to Argentina, China, Spain, and all over the U.S. It is a bit ironic how I fondly remember the neighborhoods I have been to while abroad and have not even visited some parts of Brooklyn yet. In addition to traveling, I like playing a wide variety of sports which include soccer, ice skating, basketball, swimming, and much more. Another passion of mine is reading sport articles. I enjoy reading about all sports, but my number one sport I like to read about is baseball. My favorite articles comes from Sports IllustratedWSJ Sports, and Yahoo! Sports. I love trying new things such as eating food from all kind of cultures. Something I wish to learn not related to academics, is playing a musical instrument. I learned how to play the guitar and piano when I was younger, but I never had the time to continue practicing on my own and soon forgot how to play one. I also wish to learn multiple languages because not only will that help me in learning another culture more easily, but also it would be useful for traveling and starting new friendships. And at times I like to just kick back and enjoy some of my favorite  TV shows: The Big Bang TheoryGlee, The Sing-off, and Jeopardy.

My name is Will Lorenzo, and I’m a Pure Mathematics and Film Studies double major with a minor in Italian at Macaulay Brooklyn College.  People call me Willie G, for short.  I collect comic books and non-sport trading cards in my spare time.  I truly am what most would consider a gigantic nerd.  If anyone has seen The Big Bang Theory, I would consider myself the real life, Roman Catholic version of Howard Wolowitz.  I am also somewhat of a film aficionado and enjoy watching all kinds of movies – especially my two favorite movies My Cousin Vinny (1992) and Superman: The Movie (1978), each of which I have seen over 50 times.  I also spend a lot of time watching all different kinds of TV shows, my favorite of which is George Reeves’ The Adventures of Superman.  My favorite time of year is Christmastime, because it’s just awesome – it’s cold, cheerful, and just a happy time.  As opposed to the rest of the year where it’s not too cheerful and actually pretty miserable.  I live my life based on Cee Lo Green’s masterpiece, “Fu Forget You.”  Well, there’s nothing more to say about me, so let me leave you with the words of John McClane: “Yippee Ki-Yay Mothe…!”

My name is Daniel Scarpati, and a film production major hoping to pursue a career in filmmaking/directing. Ever since seeing Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park at age 4, all I’ve wanted to do is make movies. I’ve made 50 short films and countless other VLog episodes, video game reviiews and things of that nature. I’m also interested in digital art design and web design. I update and maintain my own blog, The Utopia of Daniel (which won Best Personal Eportfolio at Macaulay Honors College’s 2012 Eportfolio Expo), and I’m the founder and director of my own Queens-based production company, Passing Planes Productions.

My name is Danielle Frastai, and I was born and raised in Brooklyn. I attend Macaulay Honors College at Brooklyn, and my major is still undecided. I might choose to major in either psychology or art history, which I am hoping to declare by the end of this coming semester. A few of my hobbies are playing tennis and jogging. Last year I ran in a half-marathon in Disney World whose proceeds were donated to MedStar, an organization that helps cancer patients. On Sundays, I volunteer in a program that helps young underprivileged children from broken homes. We take them to fun places in NYC, and it’s truly an inspirational experience. I enjoy learning languages, and I am fluent in Hebrew and Spanish. I am very passionate about the art of cuisine, because I love trying new foods and eating in good restaurants.
