Agenda

Welcome and greeting to everyone

 

  1. Introduction of Kalpita Abhyankar, Macaulay/CSI Class of 2011

àNew PAID internship opportunity: Princeton SciTech Scholars

–Working on a project for students/ future alums.

–The Princeton SciTech Scholars Program—ONLY FOR MHC students

–Internship starting in the Spring.

Requirements.

–Computer science [Programming] skills

–HTML, PHP

–Sophomores and Juniors only

Information about the internship

–This is dealing with big data, security and computing.

–Scholars Work on groups and individually.

–Duration: Year long

–Stipend: $2000 for the year and a $1000 IRA.

It’s on the MACAULAY CRM System

–Deadline – Dec 6th.

–It will be announced on MHC Monday.

–Location: You would be working from Macaulay. CSI has super-computers so there will be planned events there. You can also work remotely from those computers.

  1. Macaulay Administration Announcements: (programmatic, academic, etc., including College

–Did people receive the email blast regarding Barcelona? Yes [near unanimous response]

 

-On Nov. 17th, there will be a big opening for the Barcelona program. It’s at 6 pm with a feature on Spanish Architecture.

 

–Questions on upper level honors college?

-None

 

  1. Council seats & new study abroad programs)

–Commitees

-Folks from MHC College Council will come in some of the committees.

 

–The DeWitt Wallace Grants and The Stocks Grants are for Study Abroad Programs. It has been the Big go-to for regular CUNY students and if MHC students did not have enough for their opportunity funds.
It was funded by the NY community trust. The NY Community Trust as a foundation have moved to fun only national INTERNSHIPS from CUNY and MHC students. Part of that will be divided into a SALARY through the Wallace grant, or for travel further.

–According to the foundation, STUDY ABROAD not as important as internships and research which gives direct experience.

–MHC administration is asking for funding for international internships.

 

For people who applied to Wallace funds for winter or Spring, make an appointment with your advisor to ask for other funds. Andrew Adair will be working with Veronica Maldonado to help those who have been caught in the fix.

 

  1. Clubs & Initiative Updates (including TEDxCUNY conference, Triplets fall concert, etc.)

 

TEDXCUNY

-TED X CUNY is on Sunday Nov. 16th .Doors open at 9:30. Conference goes on from 10 AM to 5 PM.

There are 13 speakers, performances, and art installations.
-500 people have applied to attend currently.

-50-55 volunteers with campus liasons who will livestream the TEDXCUNY at the local campus.

-Sponsored by MACAULAY, USS [CUNY wide student govt], CCNY Graduate student council.

-TEDx CUNY is OFFICIALLY LICENSED.

 

New clubs

MHC Theater Club

–2 iterations of the theater club. The last one fizzled out 1.5 years ago, but they did a lot of great events.

–Founder: Jessica Castro (Freshman at CCNY)

–This will be more like a high school musical production. They will take a pre-existing musical, get a license and perform it. First come first serve for audition. Only a small group will get to work.

-Besides perfomrers, Looking for pianist. They will only use what’s already on for the stage, and one person for the light-board and the microphones.

-Will need additional $

–The production will most likely be a musical.

-Other instrumental people might need to have

–Al l in favor as there was a quorum SO THE THEATER CLUB exists.

 

MHC Switch—by Rick Mathew

-Host events CITYwide. Hackathons, TED type events (round table conversations)

– NYC inter-MHC debate—Team based b/w Macaulay, and New York City.

-MHC needs to be integrated into NYC and the US.

-Debate topics will be education topics

–Prof. Charles Liu has volunteered for judging the debates.

-The club is essentially trying to get Macaulay to be involved in NYC.

–Currently active in Debate and Hackathon.

-Hackathon is the first event.

-Drew: Start the club on a trial basis for the hackathon. The club needs to

change its name, and get approval for the 1st event before evaluating the entire

club.

–Rick Matthews—Monetary support maybe needed.

-The club is partnered with National Engineering Honors Society.

–The Council agreed that the club needs to have a more of a focus, before starting an online voting for the club.

General Club Updates

Avasara—none.

MHC Business—exist

Chamber Music—has not had a meeting in a while. There was one administrative event where Chamber Ensemble member was representative.

 

Creative Writing—have finished their website. Need help spreading the word.

–search up 67th street scribe. The submissions for December issue on Thursday, November 20th is the deadline.

 

CUFF—CUFF is folding into the new media lab. Gala festival on March 239th

 

MHC Dancers—

 

Dead authors Society—

 

Gastronomy—no main events for November but we are focusing resources on Halo-Turk-mas. This is a potluck on December 5 or 6th and they have booked the commons.

 

Gender Equality- 3 meetings (2 at MHC and 1 unofficial meeting). Planning a major event in the spring.

 

Global Medical Brigades—fall rumba. Successful fundraising. Special performances with MHC dancers. There will be a film screening on Sunday December 7th and GMB is doing the refreshments. On Friday December 12th ,GMB is organizing a karaoke event. They are working for the Human Rights Brigades—they are looking for going to Nicaragua and Panama, because Honduras and Ghana are closed.

 

Improv Club—dead

 

Habitat for Humanity–

 

Mabuhay—first anniversary of Typhoon Haiyan. Prayer vigil at Times Square. On Friday Nov. 21st—Prof. Luis Francio will give a speech on the Filipine-American War.

 

Marauders—2 big things happening.

a)Northeast Regional Championship. 15th and 16th of November (Rochester this weekend). They are selling apparel. Regionally, the Marauders are 14th best, and nationally they are the 60th best.

 

Math Club—they have the math symposium “Limit Does not Exist” on Sunday November 23rd. (1 – 5 pm)—Location: MHC Central.

 

Messenger—Published last Monday. The next edition is going to be released on 30th of this month.

 

Model UN—NYU conference.

 

Musicians Collective—Exist.

 

Pre-health Professionals Club—

Will conduct a NYU Med School Tour and Info Session next week.

 

Pre-law: had a tour of nyu law last week. Planning a trip to Columbia law. Starting an application for mock trial.

 

Film-makers: shooting today the last of the tree films for the semester. Gala next weekend with Global Medical Brigades on Sunday December 7th.

 

SPARK:

 

TRIPLETS: Emily—assistant director.

  1. Concert “Tune Down for What”–2 nights of concert, where different groups will perform each night. They need to fill up spaces both nights.
    DateL Nov. 21 + 22 (7 pm). All info is on Macaulay Monday and Macaulay now.

 

  1. Sent the audition for ICCA.

 

  1. This is the last year with any original members. New leadership is coming up.

 

  1. Last initiative is to increase youtube presence via professionally made covers of music

 

VENTURE CLUB

 

YES: groups have formed and it started this week. Albert is incharge of recreational group.

 

EPCAT club

 

Supporting Excellence: had their 1st meeting 3 weeks ago. The conference is on March 6th next year.. They are finalizing a major international speaker as the keynote speaker.

 

  1. Campus Updates

 

Macaulay CCNY Advisor—Their advisor moved to CUNY Brooklyn.
CSI: MHC students as keynote speakers.

 

  1. Committees

Finalize MSC committees & members’ selections: Determine the group to update & maintain the MSC website.

à Committees that need to exist—
a. IT and Communications
b. Academic Affairs—the group from which students would like to be part of college council—the academic governing body.

  1. Community Service—is it necessary because so many clubs exist. SO COMMUNITY SERVICE isn’t going to exist for this year—decided.

 

  1. An overseeing committee or does everyone sign up for the different events [ Special events committee]

–we can look at 2 major events throughout the entire year per MSC event.

Pros vs cons.
Pros-smaller group of experts for communication

Cons–None mentioned during the meeting

Decision on the structure for the Events/Individual Events Committee for the

upcoming big student events is pending.
Final exams wellness programs (fall & spring)

-massages, dogs, psych club is involved
