Seminar 4: Shaping the Future of NYC
EDGEucation’s Exhibit, Neither Edgy nor Educational

3/4/14

I wasn’t able to make it to the exhibit with the class because of a cold, but I did manage to see it on my own. I was pretty excited because I’ve always had an interest in city planning and am an avid supporter of the green movement. Honestly, I was very disappointed by the design of the exhibit. It was a very bare and minimalist design; it was basically a few drawings placed in a small corridor of the center. It felt as if the purpose of the exhibit was to entice the audience to want to learn more about EDGEucation, but it didn’t leave me wanting more.

After taking a step back and considering the amount of space given for the exhibit, I can’t judge it too harshly. The small hallway doesn’t really give much leeway in terms of design elements. However, if they had included more photos of the actual work being done by the river and other areas – such as the kids and community getting involved – it would have been better. Adding a bit more text on the wall to explain more in depth, would have helped to pull me in as well. The main reason I actually did further research on the NYRP and EDGEucation, after returning home, is because there wasn’t enough information in the exhibit.
