The picture was painted by Pat Steir and inspired by an actual waterfall. The colors however, do not reflect that of the kinds of waterfalls you find in nature. The greys, blacks, and whites are strewn across the canvas that it could be its own waterfall, taken out of time and put on display for the world to see. In a way it is like society, the darks and the lights intermingling to make one and continuing forever down the stream. The painting, like its name, will be everlasting. You cannot look at this painting in parts; you need to view the whole piece as one thing because each section is necessary for the understanding of the other. You are submersed in the painting, and you just want to let the current take you with it as you fall down the falls.
