We looked at the form and description. We also looked at the various parts of the painting (like the sandbar?, the trees) and contemplated about what they were trying to convey. We didn’t really look at the historical content because we didn’t really know much about it. If we had more time at the museum, we would have tried to view the painting in terms of the environment in which it was made.
