A beautiful forest… “Forest Scene” by Narcisse Virgile Diaz de la Pena

by: Ariella Trotsenko, Odette Colangeli

Seeing all the beautiful work in the Brooklyn Museum really opened up our eyes to what amazing art New York City has to offer. Now, as students, the opportunity to take upon the advantage of what we have, is easier than ever. This piece, “Forest Scene,” is a magnificent painting done by Narcisse Virgile Diaz, and demonstrates a magical and whimsical scene that will bring you back to childhood memories. We hope you enjoy our conversation that we had about this painting from the Macaulay Night at the Museum!

A Storm in the Rocky Mountains

by: Jessica Mele, Anika Nabila, and Shariq Mohammad

It was an interesting experience because it was unlike anything we’ve done before. It was a chance to look at art from a different perspective. Although we’d been to museums before, we’d never actually stopped to reflect and talk about the art. We learned that behind the pretty colors, there are many meanings.

Virgin and Child with Four Angels and the Redeemer

by: Sheena Chin, Seung Ah Choi, Tiffany Fan

The overall experience at the Brooklyn Museum Night for Macaulay students exceeded our expectations. For instance, the three of us in the first place, are not really museum-y artsy people so we assumed it’d just be really boring. However, going to the museum at night is a totally different experience. Because there less people around, students were allowed to scatter to every corner of the museum. On a personal level, we were allowed to better connect with these works of art and that was really cool.

Apple Gathering – Jerome Thompson 1856

by: Michele Bradley and Levy Rozman

Well, something happened with our audio recordings so we weren’t aware of the details regarding the peoples’ work that we stole. However, I’d say that the project was fun, although in my opinion, Sony Vegas is better than iMovie. I nevertheless found that this was a fun and engaging experience that allowed me to realize others talents and interesting perspectives that are at times different from my own.

At the end of our video, we included an 1856 symphony by Antonín Dvořák called Humoresque.

Brooklyn Museum Piano Tree

Interesting. Very enlightening, we did not know how to use GarageBand and iMovie, and so it was a learning experience.

Art can have many different interpretations, and can come in many forms.
