Napoleon Leading The Army Over The Alps
by: Marie Mazzeo, Michael Mazzeo, Mark Khaimov, Benjamin Sanits, Revital Schechter, Julia Canzoneri
It was amazing. We had such a great time seeing different types of art from all over the world. It was so interesting to see things as old as mummies walking distance from modern art. Although it was intimidating analyzing the art at first, it was an unforgettable experience.

Décontractée by Louise Bourgeois
Crafted 1990, Pink marble and steel base
As we walked through the halls of the Brooklyn Museum on September 3rd, we found ourselves enchanted and intrigued by the various works around us. Our eyes were drawn in particular to French-American artist Louise Bourgeois’ Décontractée, a sculpture crafted from pink marble featuring models of two severed hands atop a rough block of unfinished marble. Throughout her career, Bourgeois worked with images of body parts, usually fragmented. Many of her pieces include hands, appendages often remarked upon in the art world as they serve as the artist’s greatest tool. Here, we discuss our interpretation of the piece as well as the deeper emotional meaning behind the sculpture itself.
Overall, we garnered a greater appreciation for art and the deeper meaning in works that, at first glance, appeared to hold little value below the surface. The experience was enjoyable, educational, and encouraged us to bond with other Macaulay students.

It was an interesting experience to be able to visit the Brooklyn Museum at night with everyone at Macaulay. It reflected different cultures and we were able to learn a lot from the different art pieces we observed.

Night at the Museum
by: Woo Seok Choi, Hol Seo, Sanjida Kayes, Katie Mullen, Steven Talero
The exercise was an enlightening experience. We learned that there is more than meets the eye to art and that first impressions are important when thinking about art. But, it is necessary to employ analytical thinking in order to explore deeper meanings and implications of art.

The Sketcher: A Portrait of Mlle. Rosina, a Jewess
by: Nicholas Randazzo, Jillian Panagakos, Shahrouk Reza, Nicole Baricevic, Carolyn Balcom, Victoria Fernandez
The experience was enlightening. We learned how to critically analyze the painting to lead us to a deeper understanding of it. Consequently, we not only learned more about this specific painting, but more about the creative process as a whole since this painting is meant to personify the artistic process.

It was interesting. None of us have ever been to the Brooklyn nor discussed art. So that part was cool. Editing was a bit new to us and therefore intimidating but we got through it as a team.
