Museum Project
by: Elizabeth Higgins, Jenny Lai, Andrea Matteo, Ziha Qureshi, and Linda Jang
The Night at the Museum was a really great experience. We got to make new friends and gain a better understanding of how to analyze works of art. We discussed techniques that artists use to convey meaning. We all gained a new appreciation for different perspectives and ideas about paintings.

Welcome to our Peace World Workshop
by: John Varriano, Thomas Newman
The experience was definitely something new and opened us up to a different approach on art. We learned that there are many perspectives and lenses that people have about the same piece of art which is cool because this makes it unique from person to person.

Likishi Dance Costume and Accessories
by: Allison Thorsen, Emmanuelle Roche, Kristen Walsh, Wajiha Kazmi, Fatmira Curovic
In this video we discussed the artistry of a culture very different from our own. None of us are of this heritage, but we were able to speak about the work objectively and with questioning minds. It was a very different art form from what you would normally expect to see in a museum, and that was refreshing. We loved hearing each others’ ideas and interpretations of the piece.

Everlasting Waterfall
by: Stacy Aguilar, Valentiena Dias, Gabriela Rico, Veena Mehta
Going to the museum gave us the opportunity to look at art in a different way and to see the pieces from the different perspectives of the members in the group. We were able to put ourselves in the artist’s smock and appreciate the different techniques and their purposes.
Making the video was a good way to tie the artwork and our analysis together. By using different editing tools, we could focus into the specific parts of the painting we wanted to discuss, strengthening our ideas.

The Night at the Museum
by: Nicole Pillarella, Zaris Mota, Elini Stellatos, Sharron O’Rourke, Kevin Kennedy, Tyler Crespi, Ralph Fracchiolla, Robert Cole
The experience for our group was knowledgeable. In the time spent at the museum, we enjoyed looking at the many art forms. It became natural for us to have a conversation with each other regarding specific paintings and other objects. As classmates, we bonded with not only those on our own campus, but other Macaulay campuses as well. Each member of the group seemed to have clicked easily. This project was entertaining, but yet allowed us to experience the Brooklyn Museum and learn about our chosen artworks.

Disturbing Nuances

We had a lot of fun viewing and discussing art and coming together to create this lovely video. It’s something we’ll all cherish and remember for the next four years.

Everlasting Waterfall
by: Christy Ng, Francisco Barros, Neha Mehta, Mariyanthie Linaris, Matthew Spataro
The picture was painted by Pat Steir and inspired by an actual waterfall. The colors however, do not reflect that of the kinds of waterfalls you find in nature. The greys, blacks, and whites are strewn across the canvas that it could be its own waterfall, taken out of time and put on display for the world to see. In a way it is like society, the darks and the lights intermingling to make one and continuing forever down the stream. The painting, like its name, will be everlasting. You cannot look at this painting in parts; you need to view the whole piece as one thing because each section is necessary for the understanding of the other. You are submersed in the painting, and you just want to let the current take you with it as you fall down the falls.

The New One

It started out awkward, but then we started connecting and were able to comfortably speak our opinions to each other and share a lot of insightful information and ideas. We now feel comfortable going to museums and having intellectual conversations concerning artwork.

It was great! We got to have surprisingly deep discussions about pieces, and we got to know our classmates a lot more because of that.
