A Pic-Nic Party, Thomas Cole

In our conversation at the museum, we touched on different types of analysis including description in our portrayal of the painting itself from the picnic itself to the background, and formal properties in our discussion of the artist’s use of color. We also touched on subject matter by addressing the idea of autumn and the contrast between mortality and happiness. Interrogation was utilized in our questioning of the perspectives of the characters in the work, and historical context was addressed in our contemplations about the classes and occupations of the figures. We could have focused more on the artist’s intention and developed our ideas in the other forms of analysis more fully. If we had more time, we would have added our analysis into the video in the form of text and edited the audio more fully.

Amulets

In retrospect, we should have looked at each amulet individually, and noted the details of each. In particular, we should have noted more of the specific mediums of each amulet. We had a general description as to when the amulet was created (Ancient Egypt) ;however, we did not specify the particular time period. We did not discuss in depth about the intention of the artists, because it was a large collection of amulets. There were bandages at the base of the exhibit that we did not discuss about.

At first we thought they were kids toys, but they were amulets. There was a booklet on the side with all the gods and goddesses, the amulets were based on. We were wondering why the Amulets were made and what they meant. We talked a lot about the materials and the colors, wondering how the dyes were made. We knew the amulets had to do with religion, specifically polytheistic form, because of the depiction of gods and goddesses. We discussed the importance of the afterlife to the ancient Egyptians and how depending on your status, their burial rights were different.

Macaulay Night at the Museum (2016)

The analysis we utilized were description, interrogation, formal properties, subject matter, historical context, and the artist's intention. If we had more time we would have liked to add more affects and embellish the presentation more.

Media Arts Day

At the museum, during our conversations, we had conversation about all of the types of analysis with the exception of Interrogation and subject matter/content. We did not put too much effort into finding the history of the time period around which this work was created. Also when analyzing the formal qualities of "Heat", we noticed that we spent a lot of time on the color and what the artist was probably trying to portray using them, and little to no time on other formal qualities, such as, line, shape, scale, material, etc.

Seated Figure of Nakhtsaes

This is the Seated Figure of Nakhtsaes, a headless statue sitting down, which is very faded and dilapidated. We used description, interrogation, and historical context. We weren’t able to use formal properties, subject matter, and artist’s intention. If we had more time, we’d like to delve into the artist’s intention, and compare what he wanted use to take from the piece to what we inferred.
