This past Tuesday, ABC Family broke its own records with their highest Tuesday ratings in the network’s history. Which shows propelled the network to this victory? Pretty Little Liars and the premiere of its spinoff, Ravenswood.
PLL and Ravenswood destroyed other teen-targeted shows in their time slots—The Originals and Supernatural on the CW—though both CW shows still rated high enough to maintain their successful statuses. As a huge fan of The Originals, I have some resentment over these numbers, as I was hoping for a Twitter triumph for the show with the hash tag, #Originalsversusprettylittleliars. Nonetheless, Pretty Little Liars fans got the last laugh; PLL beat The Originals by over a million viewers and a whole ratings point. The show deserves all of its success, though, because it is pretty darn good!
Troian Bellisario, Ashley Benson, Lucy Hale, and Shay Mitchell star as the “pretty little liars” who must band together in the wake of a friend’s death to destroy an anonymous villain who uses their secrets against them. In Ravenswood, Tyler Blackburn and Nicole Gale Anderson play two teens who find their names and faces on headstones, as if they had already died. Needless to say, they decide to band together and solve this mystery.
Ravenswood scored the highest series premiere for ABC Family ever in their targ
et demographic: women age 18-34. Almost a million women from that demographic tuned in to the show. With numbers like these, PLL-turned-Ravenswood star Tyler Blackburn likely will not be returning to Liars any time soon. However, I’m still rooting for The Originals to take a bite out of Ravenswood’s ratings as the show moves to its new time slot! #OriginalsversusRavenswood
You can catch Ravenswood every Tuesday at 8:00 PM EST on ABC Family, and Pretty Little Liars resumes in January.
