My name is Shahdi Qurashi and I pretty much grew up in Queens. When I was 6, my family moved to Coram in Long Island, but we decided to move back to Queens when I was 12. After I moved back to Queens, I lived in Bayside. I like to play basketball and football in my free time or just hang out with friends. In the future, I want to be a psychiatrist because psychology interests me and I want to be able to help people with their problems. Apart from playing basketball and football, I like to eat food and all desserts (especially ice cream).
I love ice cream. My friends often say that I’m addicted to ice cream. Even in Winter, I would sit with a quart of ice cream and finish it in two days. My favorite day of the week (apart from the weekend) is Tuesday because of the Baskin Robbins buy one sundae get one free special. I have eaten at many different ice cream places in NYC to try and satisfy my sweet tooth, but the one place that stands out to me above all else is Snowdays.
Snowdays was relatively close to my high school and right by this amazing $15 sushi buffet place. After school, I would go with my friends to grab sushi and then Snowdays for dessert. I loved the different options for shaved ice flavors and toppings as well as the cheap prices. The convenience of Snowdays made me grow fond of it too. It was cheap and near my school. Over time, going to Snowdays became a habit for me and even now in college, I still go grab ice cream at Snowdays to satisfy my sweet tooth.
The environment at Snowdays was also very welcoming. It was never crowded, but at the same time there was always people there, enjoying themselves. The speakers had radio pop songs playing at just the right volume so you could carry out a conversation with your friends but also vibe to the music playing. The spoons change colors when you use them and it’s always cool to watch. The workers there are all young and friendly; when I was a senior two of my friends ended up getting jobs there too.
If anyone asked me to recommend them an ice cream place, I would tell them to check out Snowdays. It has and always will be my favorite ice cream place in the city not only because of how delicious and cheap the ice cream is, but also because of the many memories that I had there.
