Jonathan Chevinsky
When I look back to where I’m from I marvel at my life today
A child born with long blond curls, a man approaching adult life
My tale begins far far away, the land of New Jersey
Born into a large family, the youngest child of four
An introverted little boy adjusting to the fearsome world
A loving tightknit family, a place to call my home
A child rose between two worlds, both shaping and inspiring him
Of course the first was medicine, the business of my family
My father, uncles and my aunt all made their living the same way
Exposed to the aid provided, I knew this path was right for me
I did whatever I could do to make this dream my future life
And that is how I made it here to my life as it is
But that life story is remiss, lacking in part what makes me me
This massive realm of influence, my Judaic beliefs
Through time spent at my synagogue, I gained valuable experience
Through family celebrations this passion kept developing
But that which really sealed the deal was my yeshiva exposure
Relationships with friends were formed as well as with helpful teachers
I learned all about my culture, my people and our potent bond
Another way to view my life, yet still not the complete story
Because it fails to account for the hobbies that define me too
A huge sports fan for all my life, a tennis player through and through
A student of the sciences, a volunteer, a cinephile
American of allegiance, descendent of Romania
And that is where my story ends and begins where I have left off
Brought into another new world, adjusting to life in Brooklyn
Again I am this little boy adjusting to the fearsome world
And slowly growing comfortable to this eclectic, huge city
