Our focus: Because volunteering is integral to Buddhism, the Tzu Chi Foundation in Flushing has benefitted the community so greatly. When we visited, each of the members described themselves as volunteers and were even going out to clean the street after their Buddhist service. Here is the mission statement of this international foundation. It entails “Eight Footprints,” which are the current missions the people are working on: those of charity, medicine, education, culture, international relief, bone marrow donation, environmental protection and community volunteering.
