Intersections quote

“happiness is not in getting what you want but in wanting what you get.” This reminds me of the famous saying “you don’t know how good it is until its gone.” Human nature is one that always wants more, or wants what it does not have. For example when someone is taking public transportation they might want to have a car, but then when they get a car, they want a luxury car, then if they get a luxury car they want an exotic sports car, etc. People are so consumed by what they do not have, but often fail to see what they do have. It starts when we are young in America. We cry at the toy store if we dont have a toy and we want it, however we do not stop to think that we at least have food to eat unlike many children around the world. Then as teens we always complain about not having the newest phone, or video game, etc. Then as adults we always desire to go up in the seemingly never ending corporate ladder. However this quote suggests that one will only truly obtain happiness if we recognize the value of what we have and we appreciate it, and desire it (although we already have it).
