Mike and I (Daphne) studied the basketball culture of New York which we chose because of the unique New York style that has made the sport such an art form. New York has a very important role in the history of basketball as it developed into the widespread and meticulous sport that it is. Likewise, basketball has played a very special role in the history of New York. The “golden age” of basketball culture was in the 1970s and in the streets and playgrounds of New York. The “style” that evolved as a result of this outdoors improv playing is what can distinguish it as an artistic development.
