Climate Change Section 1- C.Ng
I think this first section really reflected the outlook on climate change in today’s society.
When the protagonist questions himself whether or not climate change would need its own book, it sort of reflects how people nowadays don’t really know whether climate change is as serious as some make it out to be. Nowadays, people question if its a real thing; people think its a hoax and that its just a publicity stunt. The minor conflict the protagonist has with whether or not to give this issue its own book reflects that. Just the fact that he’s considering giving it its own book shows that he understands the severity and the seriousness of the issue and he understands that reality of the situation.
It’s significant when the two people are walking through the protagonist’s old house. Just his realization that so much has changed since he has last been there also reflects our society today. Our culture, technology, and society in general are constantly changing and advancing. While progression can be beneficial, it also can blind us from important matters. Just like how the advancements of the house made it look unrecognizable to the protagonist, the forever changing world that we live in let important issues like climate change fall through the cracks and be forgotten and overlooked.
I look forward to seeing how the story line progresses and how the issue is brought up.
