The video starts with a young girl walking through a park at night. The girl stands out because of her black hair, black eye makeup, black clothes and tattoos. Her walking alone and being laughed at helps viewers realize she’s an outcast. In the middle of the video, she gets in a fight with her mom. This fight helps us see that the alienation is present at home too. Which lets us infer that the girl may have no one to confine in. The video ends with her looking in the mirror and smiling at herself proudly. The only difference in her appearance is that she is wearing a green shirt that says “Be Yourself”.

The poem doesn’t appear in the video at all, but it does parallel some lines. There’s a music track that starts off sad and ends up hopeful. It replicates the girl’s mental state. The video is entirely animated and is made up with a combination of different shots. Some from the back, some close-ups, some far away. The emotional climax occurs in the middle. I’d say that would be the scene where she runs up to her room, crying. The heft and resonance occurs through the music and girl’s actions. The iMovie matches the tone and essence of the poem. Alphons was able to capture the feeling of being an outcast but embracing what makes you difference. However, she did add some scenes that didn’t directly replicate the lines but did replicate the feeling.
