Interested in teaching on the coast of Thailand, studying environmental conservation in the foothills of the Himalayas, reporting for a leading newspaper in Myanmar, or working on local economic development in Mongolia? Then step out of the country, out of your comfort zone, and out of the cubicle and apply to Princeton in Asia.

Princeton in Asia (PiA) fosters mutual appreciation and cultural understanding by connecting service-minded graduates and partner organizations in Asia through immersive work experiences that transform perspectives, cultivate long-lasting relationships and benefit local and global communities. Founded in 1898, PiA is one of the oldest not-for-profit organizations of its kind, unique in its scope, size, century-long expertise and emphasis on service. For the 2016-2017 academic year, PiA expects to offer 130 yearlong fellowships in 19 Asian countries in the fields of access to education, environmental sustainability, public health, economic development, social justice and access to information. We have an incredibly active group of fellows and alumni who, inspired by their yearlong PiA experience, maintain a lifetime commitment to Asia and PiA. PiA is open to graduates of all colleges and universities and requires no prior Asian experience or language skills. The Asian Women in Business (AWIB) Scholarship supports exceptional Asian female undergraduates who demonstrate a commitment to scholarship, leadership, community service and/or entrepreneurship with a one-time $2,500 scholarship.  The selection committee intends these awards to support future leaders in a range of fields. 

The deadline for this year’s application is October 1^st, and the application form, which includes instructions for applicants and very helpful information about the scholarship’s goals, can be found here.

The application includes the following two essay questions:

1. In 500-800 words, describe your leadership role(s). What did you accomplish? How has this experience influenced your goals? How has it made you a better leader?
2. In 150-400 words, outline what you would do with the scholarship money.

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) offers scholarships to provide financial assistance and increase graduation rates among Latino students in post-secondary education.

Applicants must demonstrate a history of performing public service-oriented activities in their communities and a desire to continue their civic engagement in the future. There is no GPA or academic major requirement. Students with excellent leadership potential are encouraged to apply.

You can learn more about the scholarship program and read about other opportunities offered by the CHCI at www.chci.org/scholarships/ and access the 2015 scholarship application by visiting apply.chci.org.  Applications are due April 16, 2015.  Essays and letters of recommendation are required, so if you are interested, visit the scholarship’s website and application page as soon as possible.

CHCI scholarships provide recipients with a one time scholarship of:

• $2,500 (paid in equal installments for each year of study) to pursue an undergraduate degree
• $5,000 to pursue graduate-level study

Awards provide assistance with tuition, room and board, textbooks, and other educational expenses associated with college enrollment.

Eligibility Criteria:

• Full-time enrollment in a United States Department of Education accredited community college, four-year university, or graduate/professional program within the United States and Puerto Rico during the period for which scholarship is requested
• Demonstrated financial need
• Consistent, active participation in public and/or community service activities
• Strong writing skills
• Applicants must be U.S. citizens, lawful permanent residents, asylees, or individuals who are lawfully authorized to work full-time without restriction for any U.S. employer and who, at the time of application, possess lawful evidence of employment authorization.   NOTE: Individuals who are seeking consideration under the “Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival”  (DACA) policy must possess an Employment Authorization Document at the time of application.
