Mystery Guitar Man?

Has anyone ever seen the Youtube videos of MysteryGuitarMan? I was browsing the web one day and ran across his channel, which now has over 1,500,000 subscribers. He’s a very gifted musician, but what makes his videos so different from other musicians is that he combines the use of technology to compose his pieces. At the same time, his videos are very entertaining to watch because he adds visual effects. In this way, both my visual and aural senses are stimulated. This allows me watch the video straight through without getting bored.

I also began to realize that art is becoming a lot more technological. Fine artists, for example, often draw using computers and programs such as Photoshop. Do you guys think that technological art is as appreciated as much as regular art? Some people think the use of computers devalues the art because it makes it simpler to produce. I tend to think the opposite because I believe it takes a lot more time and effort to make a computer generated project. It requires skill and creativity. I also find myself really appreciating the final piece because I am always amazed by how the artist was able to create certain illusions. I do not know how to add special visual effects so the fact that someone else can do it makes it more interesting to me.

This is a great example of how our world today has advanced so much because as you can see, the use of technology is being used so frequently as it is incorporated into art. There are many artists nowadays that has used the sounds of other objects to produce beats and this reminded me of another video I saw just yesterday.

This is a video that will show you how they made the beats beforehand:

Here’s another video and this is actually a vlog of well known youtube star but if you fast forward to 5:07, you will hear the beats that are made after hitting garbage cans. I could not find a video of just the segment showing the actual beats that were made.

I think that the use of technology in the arts is OK to a point. In MysteryGuitarMan’s videos, you can see that he is still actually playing the instruments despite all that he adds in through the use of electronics. Where I don’t agree with the use of computers, in music especially, is that it makes it much easier for virtually anyone to produce a piece of music. The person does not even have to have any musical talent in order to create music using something such as Garage Band or Sibelius. In this respect, I do not think it’s fair for musically untalented people to make hits using these programs while other, truly talented musicians can barely make a living trying to get by on live performances.

So many possibilities. So few Jackass movies that can actually be made.
