Global Cities

New York has always been a stronghold for business and the economy. Even as globalization emerged and changed how economics works in general New York has remained in the center of attention. One interesting point I found from The Global City is that New York is still bursting with economic  activity while other cities have lost their flare. For example Detroit was once a large production city but now no one would compare it to cities like Tokyo or London. One reason is because New York was not only a production city for material and tangible but objects but also for ideas and services. New York also had a market for people to buy these products.

I fervently agree with the author that New York is still a thriving city because of it’s ideas. The very fact that a city that is a locus for ideas is a city that becomes lucrative is fascinating. Though it is true a global city needs all of those requirements, it is fascinating to see the power of ideas and the way they create lucrative business for a city.
