Smoking or Sodas?

What I find interesting is that most people here seem to be morally imposed to the Soda Ban, but in favor of the Smoking Ban. While the reason that everyone seems to give is that the Smoking Ban affects other people as well, I’m not sure that’s the deciding factor. In theory, if the Soda Ban will help prevent obesity, that could help others as well. An obese public will lead to a rise in health care premiums, affecting everyone. I think that there are two things that sway people. First, smoking is a very obvious annoyance in every day life. Getting smoke puffed in your face while walking is the worst. Also, there has been research released on effects of second hand smoke. Additionally, we’ve been able to see results already. One of the articles mentioned that smoking has gone done in NYC significantly since the ban, however we have not seen any significant changes in cholesterol or obesity levels in NYC since the other food laws have been passed. The lack of results makes it hard to support more laws in that category.
