Hasids vs. Hipsters
The Hasidic community had complained about the hazardous and bike lanes of Bedford Avenue, and the city responded. The city removed the bike lanes in 2009 because the Hasids claimed that these “hipster cyclists” failed to obey safety regulations while biking and their religion forbid the Hasids from looking at undressed cyclists.
However, this led to disapproval since the bike lanes had existed for a long period of time. As a result, two cyclists repainted the bike lanes of fourteen streets at 3:30 P.M as a form of resentment. These people were not arrested or charged any crimes after the police arrived.
