JFK Ferry

These images depict the Staten Island Ferry. This boat in particular is the historic John F. Kennedy ferry that is described in the book when Hans is returning from Walker Park to Manhattan. It is outside of a window, similar to the one displayed below, that the protagonist noticed Chuck with his mistress. The title of this boat contributes to the symbolism of Chuck’s patriotic attitude. The boat may also signify the transition between the serene and comforting world of cricket and the bustle of city life. It is in this environment that Hans converses with Chuck for the first time, initiating an interesting friendship.
