Almost every college course aims in part to develop your skills at clear, correct, and convincing written expression. We will discuss some points of this in class, but there is much more to know than we can cover orally; English 110 focuses more directly on such skills, but they are necessary across all disciplines. Four books on the course reserve list are recommended for guidance in writing, particularly about the arts. Although the first three are focused on visual arts, many of their tips and guidelines are applicable to writing about other art forms as well (including how to format research footnotes and bibliography); the fourth covers more media.
Sylvan Barnet, A Short Guide to Writing about Art
Marjorie Munsterberg, Writing About Art
Amy Tucker, Visual Literacy: Writing about Art (written by a QC English professor)
Suzanne Hudson and Molly LeClair, Thinking and Writing in the Humanities
