We surveyed 10 people in Port Richmond, Staten Island. We surveyed 6 females and 4 males. The 10 surveyors ages were 21, 26,27,28,31,37,42,44,49 and 56 years old. All 10 people we surveyed understood other languages, which included Spanish. All 10 people we surveyed lived in the bilingual community. All 10 people we surveyed gave positive feedback about bilingual communities. The answers were diversity and beneficial. All 10 surveyors spoke Spanish inside their homes. 6 surveyors primarily speak English outside their homes and 4 surveyors spoke English and Spanish outside their homes. 3 surveyors believed the Spanish signs promoted business while 7 surveyors believed it was beneficial to Spanish speakers and immigrants. All 10 surveyors believed that you can travel around Port Richmond without knowing the English language. 7 surveyors believes Spanish is necessary in Port Richmond and 3 surveyors believed Spanish is unnecessary. For those who said yes, their reasonings included the large population of Spanish speakers and Spanish culture. The reasoning for those who said no was that most people can speak and understand Spanish and English. 4 surveyors have met storeowners and employees who only speak Spanish, 4 surveyors have not met storeowners and employees who only speak Spanish and 2 surveyors say that they sometimes meet storeowners and employees who only speak Spanish. 3 surveyors want more bilingual signs in Port Richmond while 7 surveyors do not find it necessary to have any more bilingual signs in Port Richmond.
