Our group interviewed a varied assortment of people, ranging from actual day laborers and domestic workers to those that worked with those groups of people. We learned that the conditions these groups of people lived in were just as varied as their backgrounds. One day laborer, who was a recent Chinese immigrant, had the fortune of having family already living in the United States so he did not have the same problems the day laborer we interviewed at the May Day International Workers Rally had. The woman who was protesting in support of domestic workers also spoke to the poor conditions the domestic workers often worked in. However, change is being made. Barbara Young, an organizer for domestic worker rights discussed how grassroots organizations are working to improve domestic worker conditions. While obviously neither group currently has all the rights they deserve, progress is slowly being made in the right direction.
