Alexander String Quartet

The string quartet performance at Baruch was something I personally enjoyed. I played the violin for four years and really enjoyed learning about one of the most difficult instruments to master. So knowing ahead of time that this was a string quartet made me want to attend even more. As others have remarked, I too was shocked at the recital hall that Baruch almost secretly has. Sadly I probably would not have come across it, had it not been for the concert. It was small and the stage was relatively close to the audience, making the concert more in touch with the people attending it. I found myself extremely interested in the whole performance, I think this probably has to do with how unbelievably well the violinists and especially the violist played. It was interesting to see the audiences reaction compared to my own. I often looked around to observe how other people were taking in the music and it was funny to see how some people were extremely concentrated while others let the music take them wherever it wanted to, even if that was to sleep. For some reason the violist stood out to me the most and I tended to watch him out of all the other musicians, it could be because of how, in my opinion, the pieces of music tended to focus around the viola while the violin and cello were playing accordingly. The whole performance reminded me of the movie The Red Violin, because of the similarities in the music being played. It was soft at times and then very loud at other times. I overall enjoyed the performance and found all the pieces to be beautiful.
