art on the upper east side

I was meeting my friend on the Upper East Side today, and while I was walking down the street I saw the most magnificent thing. I saw a live photo-shoot. This was especially exciting for me because I believe that fashion is one of the most interesting forms of art. I watch “Project Runway” and “America’s Next Top Model” religiously. I read fashion magazines and the fashion section of the newspaper. When we were blogging about “Art in New York” I immediately thought of Fashion.  When deciding which school to go into I was very close to choosing FIT (Fashion Institute of Technology) instead of Baruch.

The photo-shoot was so fun to watch. The model was beautiful and flawless. She wore a tweed suit and had perfect makeup, which included bright red lipstick. She was standing against a brick wall in a very model-esque manner. I would not be surprised if I saw her in an ad for Chanel in the next few months.

I kept thinking about the ads in magazines. How I would scrutinize the ad and inspect every little detail from the way the model’s fingers lay to the position of her face and the expression in her eyes. Whenever I study these ads and photos I always hear Tyra Banks’ voice in the back of my head giving constructive criticism. Today I got to see the ad come to life right before my eyes. I noticed the way the model positioned herself, moving slightly between some frames and changing her position altogether between others. I heard the director shouting tips to the model to stay in one pose or change to another. I was mesmerized by the beauty and grace of the model and the idea of the photo-shoot overall.

I can’t wait to see that ad in a magazine or on a billboard and know that I was there when it happened. I saw this ad, this art, as it was being created.
