Being a photographer

I wanted to comment on the physicality of actually taking a photograph and being successful at it.  During my Snapshot experience, I found that it was not only pretty hard to pick a subject, but to be able to capture it artistically was a whole different story. I felt a little inapt as I was capturing photographs, because I didn't know how to make them look "artsy" and interesting. Watching others present their photographs on Wednesday in class definitely gave me more of a sense of how a photographer makes a piece of art out of its subject. First, we saw the image of the tall Conde Nas building, which deemed to be our favorite for Jerrica's selection. I observed how it was the angle of the picture that made the photograph as stunning as it was. I learned throughout class that it was how you used the subject in the photograph that mattered, the subject itself was not as important. I also became aware of the usage of angles in pictures, angles make a worthy photograph. With this fresh knowledge in mind, I started looking through my own pictures that I had taken, undecided about which two I would choose. I noticed I wasn't utilizing many angles and many of the pictures I took were too straight on, and that I was a pretty crappy photographer. However, once I narrowed down my selections I was able to find a photograph that wasn't so bad. Previous to this course, photography was completely beyond me. However, I'm proud to say that now not only do I know how to analyze a photograph, but I also sort of know how to take a fairly good photograph as well. Not to mention that I also read a graduate level book on the subject.
